Terms of Use & Content License

The short version: be real and respectful, you keep ownership of what you share, and you grant us a broad license to preserve and use it so the archive can exist and endure. The full terms below govern your use of The Human Voice Project (the “Project”).

1. Eligibility

You must be 18 or older to submit. By submitting, you represent that you are of legal age and that the submission is your own voice, likeness, and/or words.

2. Your submissions

A “submission” is any audio, video, or written material you provide, plus any transcript, translation, caption, summary, or analysis derived from it. You are solely responsible for your submissions.

3. License you grant (please read carefully)

You retain ownership of your submission. To allow the Project to operate, preserve, and share the archive, you grant The Human Voice Project and its operators, successors, and assigns a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, fully paid-up, transferable, and sublicensable license to:

  • store, host, back up, and preserve the submission indefinitely;
  • reproduce, copy, and distribute it;
  • adapt, edit, translate, transcribe, caption, excerpt, and create derivative works from it (including AI-assisted analysis and summaries);
  • publicly display, perform, and communicate it — in whole or in part — on the Project’s surfaces and in related materials;
  • use it for the Project’s archival, research, educational, historical, editorial, analytical, promotional, and platform purposes; and
  • sublicense and transfer these rights, including to a future institutional steward of the archive (for example, a research organization or a company that assumes stewardship), so the archive can be maintained for future generations.

This license survives any change in the Project’s ownership or operation and is not affected by your later stopping use of the Project, except that you may request deletion as described in Section 8.

4. Moral rights

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you waive, and agree not to assert, any moral rights (such as rights of attribution or integrity) in your submission against the Project or those acting under its license. Where such rights cannot be waived, you consent to the acts described in these terms.

5. Your representations & warranties

You represent and warrant that:

  • you own or control all rights necessary to grant the license above;
  • your submission is your own and does not infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contract, or other right;
  • any other identifiable person in your submission has given you the rights and consents needed for this license; and
  • your submission is lawful and complies with Section 7.

6. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Project, its operators, contractors, successors, and assigns from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your submission or your breach of these terms.

7. Content standards

Share honest reflection. Do not submit anything that:

  • harasses, threatens, defames, or incites violence against anyone;
  • contains hate speech or sexual/explicit content;
  • discloses another person’s private information without consent;
  • is spam, advertising, malware, or impersonation; or
  • is unlawful or infringes anyone’s rights.

Honest fear, criticism, doubt, and strong feeling are welcome — that is the point.

8. Moderation, removal & your right to delete

Every submission is reviewed before any public display. We may keep a submission privately archived, decline it, or remove it from public view at our discretion. You may permanently delete your own submissions at any time from the Manage your recordings page, or by emailing privacy@humanvoiceproject.com; on deletion we remove your submission from the private and public archives and delete the underlying files. Deletion does not affect copies already lawfully sublicensed or transferred before your request, or anonymized/aggregated analysis that no longer identifies you.

9. No compensation

Submissions are voluntary. You are not entitled to any payment or compensation for your submission or for any use permitted under these terms.

10. Research, analysis & AI

The archive may be studied and analyzed, including with automated and AI-assisted methods, to understand how people are experiencing this era. Any use of the corpus for research or model development will be conducted in line with the Project’s published data-governance practices and applicable law.

11. Disclaimers

The Project is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation or that any submission will be retained indefinitely.

12. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Project and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the Project. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).

13. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be noted by updating the date above; the version in effect when you submitted governs that submission.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Project operator’s principal place of business, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. (Specific jurisdiction to be finalized before public launch.)
